Birmingham City Council- conservation support

We provided technical conservation and archaeology technical advice to the Planning team for 6 months during conservation staff absence. We supported all aspects of development management on heritage matters, including commenting on planning and LBC applications, discharging conditions, and attending pre-application and enforcement visits.


Project management of a Heritage At Risk grant for Wenlock Abbey

We are managing a Heritage At Risk grant for Phase 1 of a project to reroof this Grade I Building at Risk for the Louis de Wet Foundation. The work has included carrying out out investigations into the rare Harnage stone slate roof to confirm its condition, locate suitable stone for quarrying, as well reviewing options for potential grant aid, all with Heritage At Risk funding from Historic England.


Conservation Management Plan & Feasibility study for Rowley’s Warehouse & Mansion

In 2025 we completed a Conservation Management Plan for Shropshire Council, followed by a feasibility study (with Arrol Architects) to inform new uses in this vacant key Grade II* Shrewsbury building. The project included working with stakeholders and identifying comparator sites to consider new uses.


Oswestry Shopfront Design Guide

As part of the Historic England-funded High Street Heritage Action Zone project, we created a shopfront design guide for Shropshire Council as part of the Oswestry High Street HAZ. We worked with the Town Council and Civic Society, who helped illustrate the report with examples that would best reflect the historic interest of the town centre shopfronts.


Project management of £5 million NLHF bid for Kingsley Hall, Bristol

We provided overall project management of a complex Round 2 £5 million Heritage Fund for the repair and adaptation of this Grade II* listed building in the heart of Bristol for 1625IP. As well as overseeing the project, we provided an evaluation framework, activity plan and interpretation strategy for the successful application.


Guide for Owners and Tenants of Leominster’s Historic Buildings

We were commissioned by Leominster Town Council to create a package of information that would help local people repair and maintain their historic buildings. It was funded by the Leominster High Street Heritage Action Zone and included a consultation with owners and tenants to decide the most effective ways of disseminating the guidance, which was published in web and hard copy formats.


Interpretation for Barrow Hill Memorial Hall

With G+ Studio, we developed an engaging interpretation scheme for Barrow Hill Community Trust as part of their preparations for a Heritage Fund project to revitalise this important community building.


Conservation Management Plan and Building recording at Shrewsbury Castle

We produced a Conservation Management Plan and Level 3 Historic Building record. We consulted with key stakeholders to build a detailed understanding of significance, issues and opportunities for one of Shrewsbury’s landmark sites . Working with Arrol Architects for Shropshire Council.


Historic England funded project – Inn Sites

We created a record of undesignated pubs across Shropshire, and engaged with communities using and caring for them. For Historic England Commissions, with Shropshire Council. Read more…


Updating the Black Country Local Heritage List

In 2022, we ran a highly interactive local list review for the combined authorities of the Black Country (Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton). As well as creating a website complete with toolkits, guidance notes and an interactive map, we reviewed all existing list entries and assessed over 650 public nominations against an agreed set of criteria.


Evaluation of the Coventry High Street Heritage Action Zone Demonstrator

We were commissioned by Historic England to carry out the end of project evaluation of the Burges & Hales Street HSHAZ demonstrator project, to identify outcomes, outputs, lessons learned & inform future policy.


Creation of Huddersfield Top Trumps

Creation of a pack of 32 individual cards as part of the Huddersfield HSHAZ. For Kirklees Council.


Project management of the Buxton High Street HAZ

As part of Historic England’s HSHAZ programme we provided maternity cover for the delivery phase of the Buxton High Street HAZ for High Peak Borough Council. Our work involved regular reporting to funders and the project board, encouraging and reviewing grant applications, and monitoring work on site.


Listing Support for the North West region

Amendments to list entries in the North West High Street Heritage Action Zones. For Historic England.


Wednesbury Conservation Area Appraisal

Review of existing Conservation area & management plan. For Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council.


Evaluation of the Heritage Trust Network’s NLHF project

We carried out interim and final evaluations of the ‘Unlocking the Power of Communities’ project for the Heritage Trust Network which was funded by National Heritage Lottery Fund & Architectural Heritage Fund. The evaluation provided the delivery team with essential guidance on where the project was being successful and the tweaks that could be made while it was running, as well as areas for further development. The results were used to support further successful funding applications for the Heritage Trust Network.
