'Route Master' - an introduction to delivering guided walks and tours

Planning a guided walk or tour, or want some fresh ideas to reinvigorate an existing tour? This hands-on day is for you.

Heritage tours can be a great way to highlight hidden histories, provide personal insights and give visitors a chance to question, imagine and connect with heritage in more meaningful and informed ways. But getting it right can be a challenge and this workshop will guide you on your journey! By stepping into the shoes of your audiences you will consider which stories to tell along the route and how to tell them.

During this workshop we will explore

Creative engagement techniques and tools
The power of heritage ‘hooks’ and how to identify them
Building confidence with public speaking and storytelling
Being aware of barriers to engagement, how to be inclusive and to respond to the needs of your audiences
Evaluating your tour experiences and how to improve your offer
How to cascade training and best practice to others

This workshop is an in-person event and will take place at a heritage venue in the UK (location to be confirmed). We will use the stories of the site to help guide team and individual activities.
